City appoints new director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Yamile Nazar has been appointed as the new director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion for the Fayetteville-Cumberland Human Relations Department. Nazar has served as the interim director of the Fayetteville-Cumberland Human Relations Commission and assumes her new role today, Monday, January 3.

New City flag and seal designs adopted
The Fayetteville City Council adopted new designs for the City flag and seal during the final Regular Meeting of 2021. The new designs align with the Can Do Carolina regional brand, launched in December 2020.

Double Duty: Mayner Accepted to UF Graduate School
Chief Branding Officer Kenneth Mayner has been accepted to graduate school at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications. He will begin in January. Mayner will pursue a Master of Arts in Mass Communications - Public Relations.

Fire Department debuts Women in the Fire Service Day
A first for the Fayetteville Fire Department! 13 women attended the Department’s inaugural Women in the Fire Service Day on October 23. The recruitment event was held at Fayetteville Regional Fire Training Facility on Radar Road.

Road closures and detours affect Downtown for NYE
The City of Fayetteville announces road closures that will affect the downtown area near Festival Park on New Year’s Eve. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and follow any suggested detours.

Holiday closures & schedules for City services
City of Fayetteville Government offices will be closed Thursday, Dec. 23, Friday, Dec. 24 and Friday, Dec. 31 to observe the Christmas and New Year Holidays. City offices will remain closed both of those weekends. Please see the following holiday schedules for other city services.

Fire Academy graduates report to stations today
Today, the most recent Fayetteville Fire Academy graduates report to their newly assigned stations. Fire Academy Class 1-21 includes graduates ranging in age from 20-44.

Fire Department maintains accredited status
The Fayetteville Fire Department maintained Accredited Agency status with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). The Fire Department met criteria established through the CFAI’s voluntary self-assessment and accreditation program.

Open burn ban implemented due to dry conditions
Due to the increased fire risk, the N.C. Forest Service and City of Fayetteville Fire Department issued a ban on open burning. Also, land clearing burning permits are canceled for the City of Fayetteville in accordance with Fire Prevention Ordinance section 11.11.

Phelps tapped to lead City communications
Effective Nov. 29, Jodi Phelps is the City of Fayetteville Corporate Communications Director. In her new role, Phelps will oversee media relations and strategic internal and external communication and marketing plans, ensuring they align with goals and objectives in the City’s Strategic Plan.

Jensen now Member of Military Affairs Commission
The City of Fayetteville has a key player at the table to negotiate and advocate for U.S. military service members. Governor Roy Cooper appointed Fayetteville Mayor Pro Tem Kathy Jensen to the North Carolina Military Affairs Commission (NC MAC). Jensen will serve a two-year term on the Commission.
