    Parks and Recreation Rangers led the Moth Night 2021 event at Clark Park. According to Park Ranger Supervisor Jennifer Smith, more than 20 people participated. Smith says that number was the most ever and families enjoyed it.

    Checking in with the Water Rescue Team

    Recently Fayetteville Fire Department water rescuers saved a kayaker who was stuck along the Cape Fear River near Old Bluff Church Road in the Wade community around 2 a.m. At minimum, about five Firefighters respond to a water rescue call.

    Hotel building deemed unsafe due to multiple violations

    The City of Fayetteville Fire Marshal declared Quality Inn and Suites at 2910 Sigman Street, an unsafe building. On August 26, the Fire Marshal sent a letter to the building owner after receiving a complaint about possible hazards in guest rooms.

    Laptops available for Murchison Choice Neighborhood meeting participants

    City of Fayetteville and Fayetteville Metropolitan Housing Authority (FMHA) staff members want to improve access to Murchison Choice Neighborhood Plan meetings. Today, staff members will distribute laptops to people who live at the target site, Murchison Townhouses, Rosemary Street.

    Citywide mask requirement in effect

    Today, Mayor Mitch Colvin issued an amended State of Emergency for the City of Fayetteville. The update is due to the rapid and prevalent spread of the COVID Delta variant. The new declaration takes effect Friday, August 20 at 5:00 p.m. It will remain in effect until it is modified or rescinded.

    Fayetteville City Attorney Karen McDonald became the President of the North Carolina Association of Municipal Attorneys (NCAMA) during their Annual Summer Conference. McDonald will serve a one-year term as President.

    Cross Creek Bank Stabilization complete; Linear Park Trail repaired

    The Cross Creek Bank Stabilization Project is complete. Barricades were removed and people can now walk or bike the rebuilt section of Linear Park Trail. The stabilized bank now features a fence. Plants will be installed on the bank by the end of the month.

    Cape Fear River Trail Part C now open

    Part C of the Cape Fear River Trail is now open. Barricades were removed after a year of construction. Part C is the lower portion of the Cape Fear River Trail. It connects Parts A and B. With the addition of Part C, the trail now spans more than seven miles one way.

    City to reinstate mask requirement Aug. 2

    Beginning August 2, City of Fayetteville Government employees and people inside City buildings will be required to wear masks. Also, people who ride inside City vehicles will be required to wear masks.

    City flag lowered to honor former Council Member Crisp

    The City flag outside City Hall is at half-staff to commemorate the life of Council Member William Joseph Leon Crisp. Mayor Mitch Colvin issued the declaration to lower the flag this morning.

    City receives Excellence in Communications Awards

    The City of Fayetteville was among 19 North Carolina governments to earn recognition in the North Carolina City & County Communicators’ (NC3C) 2021 Excellence in Communications Awards. The City of Fayetteville won first place awards in the Audio, Digital Resource and Social Media categories.
