Planning & Zoning

Planning Division

Planning staff support several commissions charged with reviewing development proposals and making recommendations to the City Council. The boards and commissions most directly involved with development regulations or land use decisions are: Planning Commission and Zoning Commission. Staff also supports the Historic Resources Commission, Public Arts Commission, and the City-County Joint Appearance Commission.

Site Plan & Subdivision Approval

Site Plan & Subdivision Approval is the review process used by the City to ensure that new development or redevelopment complies with the standards in the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) and any terms and conditions of development approval.

Zoning Division

Staff review requests for sign and fence permits, setbacks, and other site-related standards, for everything from storage sheds to new commercial or industrial buildings. They also handle daily inquires about the Zoning or a particular piece of property and how it can be used.
