U.S. Department of Justice to host Hate Crimes Forum in Fayetteville
In collaboration with the U.S. Department of Justice, Community Relations Service and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina, the Fayetteville-Cumberland Human Relations Department will host a Bias Incident and Hate Crimes Forum on Sept. 19.

Fayetteville City Hall turns purple for International Overdose Awareness Day
The City of Fayetteville will be lighting City Hall up purple from Aug. 28 through Sept. 2 in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day. International Overdose Awareness Day is Aug. 31 and is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdoses.

New Airport Director to Land at Fayetteville Regional Airport beginning Oct. 2
The City of Fayetteville has selected a new Airport Director to lead the regional airport into the next chapter beginning Oct. 2. Andrew LaGala, Aviation operation and management professional, was selected as the new Fayetteville Regional Airport Director after an exhaustive 11-month search.

Fayetteville employees support United Way’s Meal Packing Event
More than 30 City of Fayetteville employees participated in the United Way of Cumberland County’s annual Meal Packing Event. The event, held Aug. 22 at the Crown Expo Center, featured approximately 500 participants from various agencies and organizations.

FAST to adjust service on three routes
The Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST) will be changing the frequency of stops on three routes starting Sept. 9. The schedule changes are being made due to a shortage of transit drivers.

ACE Academy continues to improve
The Fayetteville Regional Airport (FAY) held its third annual Aviation Career Education “Ace” Academy on Aug. 5 and 6. A North Carolina Department of Transportation grant and donated time and materials from speakers, pilots, and tenants at FAY made this the most successful year of the program.

Fayetteville Cares, also known as the Day Resource Center, has launched a new website, Faycares.org, for people to volunteer, donate and support individuals and families in the city experiencing homelessness.

Parks and recreation fees increase effective September 1
Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation department (FCPR) will update their fee schedule starting on Sept. 1. The fee increase will affect various programs and services, including summer camps, after-school programs, youth sports.

FAY gains additional flight; 22 flights daily
Beginning Nov. 11, the Fayetteville Regional Airport is expanding operations with a new flight. Delta Airlines has added a fourth daily flight to and from Atlanta. The additional flight will better serve travelers and shorten layover times when flying through Atlanta.

City of Fayetteville Tropical Storm Debby - Aug. 9 Update
Tropical Storm Debby has moved beyond the City of Fayetteville. Fayetteville Fire Department conducted one evacuation during Tropical Storm Debby. Fourteen people and one pet were moved by the Fayetteville Area Transit System and Parks and Recreation vehicles to Westover Recreation Center.
