Neighbors get easy access to virtual meeting

Post Date:10/31/2021 9:21 PM

A great idea became a reality at the August 24 Murchison Choice neighborhood meeting. The in person meeting was canceled due to COVID concerns. That did not stop the Economic and Community Development team from collecting feedback. They decided to host a virtual meeting for residents at the Murchison Townhouses. Community Relations Specialist Dominique Lazo-Johnson suggested they deliver 60 laptops to residents, along with WiFi, for access to the meeting.  Members of the ECD team worked with Smith Recreation Center staffers to secure the laptops. Cumberland County Schools provided wireless access for residents to attend the virtual meeting.

What is Murchison Choice?

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded the City of Fayetteville a $450,000 grant for the Murchison Road Corridor project. The grant will be used to develop a community-led plan to transform the area in and around Murchison Townhouses into a ‘Choice Neighborhood’.

Dominique Lazo-Johnson and the ECD team went door-to-door to distribute laptops to neighbors at the Murchison Townhouses.
