FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville City Council met Jan. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers to discuss matters relevant to the city.
The meeting was called to order at 6:48 p.m., followed by a prayer offered by Pastor Chris Covington with Country Club Drive Church of Christ, and then the Pledge of Allegiance lead by Mayor Mitch Colvin and City Council.
There was one ANNOUNCEMENTS AND RECOGNITION made by Mayor Colvin and Council.
- Mayor Colvin presented the Key to the City to Pamela Megill in recognition for her 13 years of devoted interest and untiring commitment to the citizens of Fayetteville as the City Clerk.
During the CITY MANAGER’S REPORT,City Manager Doug Hewett announced that Deputy City Clerk Jennifer Ayre has been appointed as the new City Clerk. City Manager Hewett then asked Police Chief Kemberle Braden to provide on an update on the recent increase in homicides.
Council member Mario Benavente moved to APPROVE THE AGENDA and the motion was seconded by Council member Deno Hondros. It was approved UNANIMOUSLY (10-0).
Council Member Hondros moved to excuse Council member Brenda McNair due to a prior commitment. The motion was seconded by Council member Derrick Thompson. It was approved UNANIMOUSLY (10-0).
The CONSENT AGENDA is a group of items that are considered routine whereby all items are passed with a single motion and vote. Members of City Council can remove items from the Consent Agenda for further discussion prior to voting.
Mayor Pro Tem Kathy Jensen moved to approve the consent agenda with the exception of items 7.0A4 (Adoption of Historic District Design Standards and Associated Text Amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance)and 7.0A9 (PWC - Phase 5 Annexation Area 32 East Section I - Resolution Confirming Assessment Roll and Levying Assessments). This motion was seconded by Council member Courtney Banks-McLaughlin. It was approved UNANIMOUSLY (9-0).
