FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - City government offices will open to the public tomorrow, Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. due to winter weather conditions.

A Winter Weather Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. tomorrow. Heavy snow fall is expected to start late this evening into the early morning hours. According to the National Weather Service, the estimated amount of snow accumulation is between two to four inches.

Updates/Changes to City Services

  • City Hall will operate on a two-hour delay, opening up at 10 a.m. Residents are encouraged to call ahead to determine if services can be completed online.

  • Solid Waste services will be delayed until roads are safe for crews to operate. Residents are encouraged to place their rollout carts out tomorrow for collection. No yard waste will be collected this week. Yard waste is set to resume as normal next week. For updates on Solid Waste services, visit FayettevilleNC.gov/SolidWaste.

City street crews began applying brine to city-owned parking lots and bridges Monday morning and will continue treating roads through Wednesday. City crews will be on standby throughout the winter storm.

Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact Wednesday morning commutes. Residents are encouraged to stay off the roads and if travel is necessary, be extra cautious while driving. Driving at posted speeds could be extremely dangerous when snow and ice are on the road. Vehicles may lose traction during these conditions which could result in a serious accident.

Residents are encouraged to call 911 for any emergencies, including downed trees or powerlines on a road.

PWC’s outage map is available at: https://www.faypwc.com/electric-outage-map/ customers should call (910)483-1382 to report outages or downed power lines.

City officials will continue to monitor the winter storm.
