Suspect Arrested in Weekend Homicide

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the FPD’s Homicide Unit have charged and arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of Rakeem McGoogan on Saturday, February 18, 2017.  The suspect has been identified as Brian Lamar Martin Jr. (B/M, 20 years of age) of the 200 block of Bahia Lane in Raeford, NC.

 

Martin was arrested earlier this morning in Raeford by the FPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and has been charged with 1st Degree Murder.  Martin is currently being processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center.

Update to Shooting Investigation

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the FPD’s Homicide Unit received information this afternoon that the victim who crashed into a residence along the 1000 block of Strickland Bridge Road after having been shot on Saturday, February 18, 2017, has died. 

 

The victim has been identified as Rakeem McGoogan (B/M, 26 years of age) of the 7800 block of Ladonia Drive in Fayetteville.

 

Detectives with the FPD’s Homicide Unit are actively investigating the fatal shooting and are asking anyone with information to come forward and speak with detectives.  Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Vehicle Crash / Shooting Investigation

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – On Saturday, February 18, 2017 at approximately 9:10 pm, officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a report of a single vehicle crash along the 1000 block of Strickland Bridge Road near the Applecross Avenue intersection.

 

The investigation revealed that a vehicle crossed over Strickland Bridge Road from Applecross Avenue and crashed into a residence located at 1082 Strickland Bridge Road.  The driver of the vehicle was in critical condition and was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where it was determined that the driver had been shot.  The driver of the vehicle remains in critical condition at the hospital at this hour. 

 

The occupants of the home on Strickland Bridge Road were not injured when the vehicle struck the home.

 

Detectives with FPD are actively investigating the shooting and additional information will be released as it becomes available.  The name of the victim is currently being withheld until detectives can contact their immediate family.
