Update to Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation

(Fayetteville, NC) – The deceased individual in the officer-involved shooting that occurred on November 23, 2023 has been identified as Demarcus Brodie (black male, 49 years old) of Fayetteville, NC. His family has been notified.

The officer involved in the incident has been identified as Dillion Hoke and has been employed by the Fayetteville Police Department since February 2016. He was taken to a hospital and treated for injuries sustained in the physical altercation. Officer Hoke is on administrative leave.

On Thursday, November 23, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle along the 2000 block of Murchison Road. During the course of the traffic stop, officers attempted to detain Brodie. Brodie resisted these efforts and began assaulting officers. Officers attempted de-escalation techniques, including hands-on and less lethal force. As Brodie continued to assault the officers, Officer Hoke discharged his weapon.

The preliminary investigation has revealed Brodie was the only occupant of the vehicle. Additionally, a knife was located on scene.

The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has assumed the investigation.

Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation

(Fayetteville, NC) – On Thursday, November 23, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle along the 2000 block of Murchison Road. During the traffic stop, a physical altercation between officers and the driver occurred. The altercation resulted in an officer discharging their weapon. The driver of the vehicle has been pronounced deceased. Their identification is being withheld until family has been notified.

The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has assumed the investigation.
