Suspect Wanted for Motor Vehicle Theft
(Fayetteville, NC) – On February 9, 2017, officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to Skylite Tobacco located at 6047 Morganton Road in reference to a report of a vehicle that had been stolen.
The investigation revealed that the owner left his 2009 Cadillac CTS running and unsecured in the parking lot of the business, while he ran inside to make a purchase. While the victim was inside of the store, an unknown individual was observed entering the vehicle and driving away.
During the investigation, detectives identified Christopher Darren Darby as the suspect who stole the victim’s vehicle. On Wednesday, February 22, 2017, detectives charged Darby with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle. Darby also has an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court for a January 2017 charge of Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and is considered an Absconder from Probation.
The FPD would like to remind all citizens to never leave your vehicle unattended while it is still running. While it only may take a couple of minutes to run into a convenience store or another business; your vehicle can be stolen in seconds. Always use caution and ensure that you are safeguarding yourself and your property.

Anyone with information regarding the investigation or the whereabouts of Christopher Darby is asked to contact Detective B. Chandler with the Fayetteville Police Department at (910) 824-9241 or Crimestoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).
