Update - Second Suspect Arrested In Homicide Investigation

(Fayetteville, NC) – A second suspect charged for their involvement in the homicide that occurred on April 18, 2023 along the 200 block of Alphin Street was arrested by the Fayetteville Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT).

The Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit charged April Shanee McLucas (Black female, 39 years old) for her involvement in the shooting death of Robert Lawrence Nowell V that occurred on April 18, 2023 along the 200 block of Alphin Street.

On May 3, 2023 McLucas was arrested by VCAT for First Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon With the Intent To Kill, Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Discharge Weapon into Occupied Property, and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. McLucas is currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center under no bond.

Update to the Homicide Investigation

(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified the deceased victim who was shot during an attempted robbery that occurred on April 18, 2023 along the 200 block of Alphin Street. There were a total of four subjects shot as a result of this incident.

The deceased victim has been identified as Robert Lawrence Nowell V (Black male, 36 years old) of Fayetteville. His family has been notified.  

The investigation has revealed that all parties were known to each other, and the deceased was shot inside the home. Three other male subjects also sustained gunshot wounds during the shooting. Two of which sustained serious injuries and are in stable condition. 

Donald Wayne McLucas Jr. was charged with First Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder, Attempted Robbery, Felony Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Discharging a Firearm Inside of a Residence to Incite Fear, and Possession of Firearm Felon. McLucas is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail with no bond for First Degree Murder and under a 140,000.00 secured bond for the other charges.

Homicide Investigation

(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit are actively investigating a homicide that occurred along the 200 block of Alphin Street on April 18, 2023.

On April 18, 2023 at approximately 8:39 p.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to the 200 block of Alphin Street for reports of a shooting. Upon arriving on scene, officers located a male suffering from a gunshot wound who died on scene from his injuries. The deceased’s name is being withheld until family is notified.

There were two additional victims, with gunshot wounds that were transported to a local hospital prior to officer’s arrival. Both victims are in serious condition.

The preliminary investigation revealed a home invasion occurred at the residence that resulted in a shooting, killing one and seriously wounding two others.

This is an active investigation. Additional information will be released as it is available.
